Davide Battistin
Davide Battistin, a contemporary artist hailing from Venice, was born in 1970. He completed his studies at the Accademia di Belle Arti in 1998, the same year he earned a scholarship to further his education at the School of Fine Arts in Athens. Over the years, Battistin has garnered numerous accolades and participated in significant group and solo exhibitions across Italy, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
His early experiences in restoration during the 1990s, particularly his work on the Sala del Maggior Consiglio, sparked a deep reflection on painting techniques. Since 2004, he has been sharing this knowledge as an educator at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica di Venezia. The artist’s debut solo exhibition took place in 2001 at the Pelar Gallery in Long Island, New York, followed by a notable exhibition at the Palazzo delle Prigioni Nuove in Venice. Presently, he operates from a sunlit attic studio located in the Cannaregio district of Venice. Since 2013, his artistic journey has been closely associated with Lineadacqua.
The Essence of Venice’s Light
Regarded as the painter of Venice’s light, Davide’s artistic exploration is an intricate quest to perfect the ability to capture those enchanting moments when sunlight bathes the lagoon, canals, and the facades of Venetian palazzos at various times throughout the day. No other city showcases light in such multifaceted ways, evoking a diverse array of emotions as vividly as Venice.
His artworks evoke the chill of a wintry morning, with flickering lights obscured by fog, as well as the oppressive heat of a blazing sun setting behind the Grand Canal’s palazzos, casting a rich, melancholic pink hue across the waters. His horizons drift into an infinite expanse, dissolving into the serene mysteries of the lagoon’s fogs. Each piece by Battistin is akin to a dream, a symphony of colors meticulously layered onto the canvas.
